Fatou Kiné Cissé, seller of arms, sentenced to one year in prison

Fatou Kiné Cissé, arms dealer and director of the Tahar Projects company, was convicted on Thursday 21 August 2025 to two years’ imprisonment, one of which was suspended, by the Dakar Correctional Tribunal. His lawyers have described this decision as severe and have announced their intention to appeal and to file a request for provisional release. During his appearance on 17 July last, the prosecutor had requested six months of prison ferme against him. However, the court made a more severe decision in sentencing her to two years imprisonment. This conviction came as one of his lawyers, Michel Mahecor Diouf, had produced a medical dossier attesting to his hospitalization for a month in the special pavilion following a pelvic fracture, reports the journal Les Échos. Incarcerated since 23 April 2025, Fatou Kiné Cissé sees her lawyers contest the severity of the decision. Meyba Danfakha, one of his defenders, announced that he would interjeter appel d’ici Monday and déposer parallèlement une demande de liberté provisoire pour sa client, détenue depuis plusieurs mois. The newspaper recalls that the case originated in a video broadcast on social networks in which Fatou Kiné Cissé, invited by a local media, questioned the security of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and his Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko.
