A biological technician of the Centre de santé Gaspard Camara was arrested and placed in custody for “false and use of false”. The case, which sheds light on flaws in the system of verification of diplomas in the public service, broke out following a complaint lodged by the chief medical officer of the Dakar-Centre district, Dr. Mamadou Thioro Mbaye. According to information from L’Observateur, M. Faye, who had previously been recruited as a nurse at the Gaspard Camara Health Centre by the Comité de développement sanitaire, had asked his immediate superior, Dr Mbaye, for an application for re-qualification. He justified his request by presenting an attestation de réussite au diplôme d’infirmier d’État. But, meticulously, Dr Mbaye decided to verify the authenticity of the document. After receiving the physical dossier of the candidate, inconsistencies have awakened his suspicions. He immediately submitted the document to the Ministry of Health and Social Action for expertise. The response of the Ministry’s services was not long in coming: the document was bel et bien un faux.
