On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), responded strongly to his critics, asserting that no one can sway him from fulfilling his responsibilities and warned that prayers would not deter him. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the renovated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council. Wike also shared an experience from before he took office after being appointed by President Bola Tinubu, revealing that he was advised to gather pastors for prayers prior to his commencement, due to various unresolved issues in the area. He remarked, “When I first came here as a Minister, on my first day, people told me to bring pastors to pray because many things had happened here.” I agreed, went over there, and found nothing. “I will carry out my responsibilities, and no one will sway my decision. Even if you pray for a whole day, it won’t change anything. If it’s meant to succeed, it will; however, if it’s driven by your own selfish motives to hinder the government’s progress, it won’t succeed. I will act according to what is right, regardless of how much you might complain throughout the day.”
