
A fire outbreak has razed a female students’ hostel at the College of Health Technology in Jahun, Jigawa State, affecting 52 students.
The incident, reportedly caused by a cooking gas cylinder, destroyed the hostel and the personal belongings of the students.
The Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Kainuwa, who visited the scene, confirmed that firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control, preventing further damage.
Following the incident, the affected students have been granted a six-day break.
Jahun Local Government Council Chairman, Malam Jamilu Muhammad Dan Malam, said the council has arranged transportation to convey the students to their respective homes and is exploring ways to support those affected.
He added that the State Emergency Management Agency is expected to provide relief materials, including clothing and mattresses, to cushion the impact of the fire.
No casualties were reported.
