The health district of Richard-Toll (Nord-Ouest) is facing a flambée préoccupante de Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift (FVR). Dr Latyr Diouf confirmed that “the district has registered since the beginning of the epidemic nine (09) positive cases including one case of death”. If all the other patients are now cured, this death reveals a disturbing evolution of the disease this year. According to the doctor, the severe forms currently observed are characterized by hemorrhagic complications: “le cas qu’on a eu à perdre, c’est un cas qui a eu à saigner”. Faced with this threat, Dr Diouf launched an urgent appeal for blood donation, declaring: “We ask the population to donate their blood”. At the same time, an unprecedented case of transmission has been recorded in the Saint-Louis region (north). The Deputy Director of Health, Dr Abdoulaye, revealed on the Rfm, that a newborn had been contaminated by his mother during childbirth.
