FIFA Club World Cup: Chelsea Discover Length of Jackson’s Suspension Following Red Card

FIFA has announced the number of matches Chelsea’s forward Nicolas Jackson will miss during the Club World Cup. On Friday, the Senegalese player was on the bench against Flamengo but came on as a substitute in the 64th minute. However, he was sent off just four minutes later for a studs-up tackle on Lucas Ayrton, resulting in an immediate one-match suspension that will keep him out of the game against Esperance Tunis on Tuesday. Chelsea’s head coach Enzo Maresca excluded Jackson from Monday’s light training session, as he is not part of his plans for the crucial Group D match. There was hope that Jackson could return if Chelsea advanced to the last 16, but it has now been confirmed (via Sports Mole) that his suspension has been increased to two matches. With no grounds for an appeal, this decision is final, leaving him unavailable for both the match against the Tunisian team and the potential round of 16 match against Bayern Munich. As a result, Liam Delap is likely to start on Tuesday, with Chelsea needing just a point to secure their place in the knockout stage.
