FIFA has mandated the relegation of a Kenyan football club due to their involvement in match-fixing activities.

FIFA, the Federation of International Football Association, has mandated the demotion of the Kenyan team Muhoroni Youth. This ruling follows FIFA’s discovery that the team, which competes in the second tier, was involved in match manipulation. Kenyan football has a history of being affected by match-fixing controversies. FIFA stated that it found Muhoroni Youth “culpable of engaging in activities associated with the manipulation of football matches and competitions.” Muhoroni Youth has been instructed to compete in the Division One League, which is the third tier, for the upcoming season. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) stated that it “completely backs FIFA’s decision,” emphasizing its “zero-tolerance approach towards match-fixing and any actions that jeopardize the integrity of the sport.” This decision comes after the suspension of Patrick Matasi, the former national team goalkeeper, in late March due to accusations that he assisted in manipulating a 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon in Yaoundé last year.
