Between late June and early July 2025, customs units succeeded in seizing black banknotes with an estimated countervalue of more than “three (3) billion 173 million” in the regions of Kaolack (centre) and Fatick (west). According to the Customs Administration, this operation is part of the fight against economic and financial crime, including counterfeiting. The most important seizure according to the same source was carried out, on Saturday 28 June 2025 by the Mobile Brigade des Douanes de Fatick who, following the exploitation of an intelligence, located one of the members of the network in Foundiougne and seized, “1. 3,39 billion CFA francs in black bills between Foundiougne and Fatick. The suspect was also arrested in a house under construction where he had hidden a carton containing black bills. The preliminary investigation then led to the arrest of a second defendant in the Ndiaye-Indiaye de Fatick district in possession of two cartons in which black bills were packed. This is a total of 679 banknotes in euro with a value of 3,390. The amount of the aid is fixed at CFA francs.
