​Fight against tuberculosis: the Senegalese government tripling its budget for better health care and prevention by 2026 

  By 2026, the government aims to triple the budget allocated to this fight, bringing it to 1.6 billion FCFA. An announcement made by Dr Fodé Danfakha, coordinator of the National Programme for the Fight against Tuberculosis (PNT), during a regional awareness day organised in the commune of Yoff. “We were at 260 million FCFA for the purchase of medicines, or about 100 000 to 200 000 FCFA per patient. “We are aiming for an envelope of 1.6 billion by 2026 to better meet the needs”, said Dr Danfakha, underlining the will to strengthen access to treatment and improve patient care. The coordinator of the PNT also stressed the importance of numbers in this sanitary fight. “Tuberculosis is a disease whose treatment requires rigorous monitoring. The number will allow us to bring the care of the patient closer”, he explained, referring to new approaches to ensure a better medical accompaniment, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Present at the ceremony, Coumba Dieng, community relais and municipal councillor in the city of Yoff, called for a mobilization of all the instants.
