
EMPD Eastern Region Task Team officers arrested five people between the ages of 30 and 39 in Springs on May 23 for transgression of immigration laws.
Officers came across three women travelling on foot along a public road in the dark and in a crime hotspot.
Questioning resulted in the women explaining that their passports expired but they are going to renew them as soon as they raise enough funds.
In a separate incident, two men were nabbed in Springs for not having any form of identification.
All five are facing charges of Contravention of Section 49(1) of the Immigration Act (Act13 of 2002) and were detained at the Springs Police Station.
