Forces have eliminated a bandit and seized an AK-47 rifle in Taraba.

Soldiers from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, working within Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have eliminated a suspected bandit and seized an AK-47 rifle in Taraba State. This information was provided in a statement to the press on Wednesday by the Acting spokesperson of the Brigade. Captain Oni Olubodunde was eliminated during a clearance operation in the Karim Lamido local government area. This event, as stated by the Acting spokesperson, followed a recent strategic visit by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, to the Bandawa community, where he stressed the importance of a stronger military presence and proactive actions to secure the region. “Responding quickly to the Commander’s orders, troops on a patrol along the Bandawa, Karim Lamido road confronted armed criminals. In a rapid and effective firefight, the soldiers took down one bandit and seized an AK-47 rifle along with 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the spokesperson noted. This operation highlighted the Brigade’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in Taraba State and restoring enduring peace. Additionally, a peace meeting was conducted on May 12, 2025, to tackle escalating tensions between the Kashimbila community in the Takum council of Taraba and Jato Aka in the Kwande local government area of Benue State. Ongoing conflicts in these areas had led to attacks on motorists along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka route. The leadership of the 6 Brigade called on citizens to continually provide timely and reliable information to assist ongoing military and peacekeeping initiatives throughout Taraba State.
