​Former Manchester United player set to join Arteta’s coaching team at Arsenal.    

 

Gabriel Heinze, who previously played for Manchester United and Real Madrid, is expected to become part of Mikel Arteta’s coaching team at Arsenal, as reported by the New York Times. Heinze’s appointment follows Carlos Cuesta’s exit from Arsenal to take on the role of head coach at Parma. Arteta and Heinze played together at Paris Saint-Germain during the 2001-02 season. At the beginning of the current season, Arteta reflected on his experiences at PSG, noting, “The other inspirations were (Mauricio) Pochettino and Heinze; those two were always by my side, guiding me in everything I needed to do professionally and helping me understand the game, which was very inspiring for me.” Heinze, 47, has served in coaching positions at the Argentine top-tier team Godoy Cruz, the MLS team Atlanta United, and Newell’s Old Boys, where he began his playing career, since retiring in 2014. He last served as the head coach at Newell’s, leaving the role in November 2023 after just one year in that position. Throughout his career, Heinze secured league championships with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Marseille, and earned an Olympic gold medal with Argentina in Athens in 2004. On the international front, he earned 72 caps for Argentina and was a runner-up in the Copa America on two occasions. He will be joining Arsenal’s coaching staff, which features assistant Albert Stuivenberg, set-piece coach Nico Jover, and goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana. All three have been with the club since 2021. Arsenal is planning additional signings for the summer. Arsenal is looking to bolster their squad further as they aim for trophies next season. Their only acquisition thus far has been Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was signed from Chelsea for an estimated £5 million. It was reported that the club intended to announce the signing of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but this fell through due to the passing of Liverpool and Portugal striker Diogo Jota. The North London side is still searching for a striker, with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko being potential targets. Additionally, Arsenal is also interested in Real Madrid winger Rodrygo and Crystal Palace FA Cup star Eberechi Eze.
