‎Former Real Madrid winger, Royston Drenthe, hospitalized after suffering stroke, sparking concerns across the football community.

‎The medical diagnosis of Royston Drenthe was announced by Madrid Xtra via a post on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to reports, the former Real Madrid and Everton winger, suffered a stroke on October 17, 2025, and is currently hospitalized.

‎The tweet reads….

‎”Former Real Madrid player, Royston Drenthe, has suffered a stroke and he’s in the hospital. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery 🙏🏽”.

‎Earlier, Royston Drenthe made headlines over allegations he made against Lionel Messi, claiming the Argentine star directed racist insults toward him during a LaLiga match in 2011.

‎However, Messi and Barcelona denied these allegations, but Drenthe maintained that it deeply affected him  emotionally.

Notably, Royston Drenthe played for Real Madrid from 2007 to 2012, joining for £12.1 million and winning La Liga title in 2008.

He left Real Madrid on June 30, 2012, after his contract expired and  joined Alania Vladikavkaz in Russia on a free transfer in February 2013.

Additionally, he was loaned to Everton by Real Madrid in August 2011 for the 2011–2012 season.

Drenthe made 25 appearances and scored 3 goals for Everton.
