Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula 1 movie, co-produced by seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, is set to be the most real-life racing film ever made.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick, the film will hit theatres on June 27, 2025.
The movie follows Sonny Hayes, played by Pitt, a veteran driver making a comeback to F1 after years away from the grid. Alongside Hayes is rookie sensation Joshua Pearce, portrayed by British actor, Damson Idris.
Oscar-winner Javier Bardem takes on the role of a struggling team principal for the fictional APX GP team. The storyline blends underdog drama, thrills, and romance, creating an engaging narrative not dissimilar to real-life racing.
REAL LIFE VS MAKE-BELIEVE IN FORMULA 1 MOVIE
Filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends at circuits like Silverstone and Yas Marina, the production integrates real-world racing with Hollywood storytelling.
Pitt and Idris drove modified Formula 2 cars equipped with advanced cameras to capture high-speed action.
The APX GP team even had its own garage and pit wall at races, seamlessly blending into the F1 paddock while hundreds of fans remained unaware that a Hollywood superstar was lapping on track.
Pitt and Idris had months of training.

Hamilton played a pivotal role in shaping the script and ensuring its realism.
Speaking to ESPN, Hamilton said, “Watching Brad drive around at speeds over 180 miles an hour was really impressive to see because it’s not something you can just learn overnight.
Hamilton told Time magazine that he was predicting box-office success.
“It’s going to blow away anything that’s ever been done in Formula One before.
“I don’t think we set out for it to be, like, an Oscar-winning movie…the goal is to make people feel good, to bring people in, to inspire people.
“We want you to leave the cinema and be like, ‘Wow, that was freaking wicked,” he said.
