Fresh cult clash claims two lives in Lagos community

Two men suspected to be members of rival cult groups have been killed in a renewed outbreak of cult-related violence in the Ojo area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incidents occurred on Sunday at separate locations within the community. The incidents were said to be linked to ongoing reprisals among rival factions.

A community source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, said the victims were found with gunshot injuries and later evacuated by security operatives.

“Two lifeless bodies were discovered in different parts of the area on Sunday, both bearing gunshot wounds. We later gathered that the attacks were carried out by suspected cult members, likely in retaliation by opposing groups. The police eventually removed the bodies,” the source said.

An anti-cultism advocacy platform, Confra Naija, alleged in a post on X that one of the victims, identified simply as Monday, was a former chairman of the Neo Black Movement at Alaba International Market and was also regarded in some quarters as a long-standing leader of the Aye confraternity in the area.

According to the platform, Monday had reportedly been on the radar of rival groups for some time, adding that one of his close associates, also described as a former Aye leader, was killed in March last year.

The group further claimed that the second victim, Efe, was another alleged leader of the Neo Black Movement in Ojo, though he was said not to be frequently active in the locality. It alleged that Efe was attacked while charging his phone during a power outage, when suspected members of a rival group confronted him.

Videos circulating online showed one of the victims lying inside what appeared to be an electronics shop, while another clip captured a man lying motionless with visible gunshot injuries.

As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, for confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered.
