Fulani group alleges attacks on herdsmen, stealing, poisoning of cows in Plateau community

The Plateau State chapter of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria, GAFDAN, has claimed a fresh case of attacks on herdsmen and poisoning of their cows in Riyom Local Government Area of the state by people they describe as “Berom Ethnic Militia.”

The group which made the allegations in a statement by its media arm on Tuesday, said the incident happened on Monday, February 2, 2026, in the Kwi community, when the assailants attacked some herders while peacefully grazing their cattle.

The statement added that the attackers opened fire on the herders who were forced to flee for safety, before stealing an unspecified number of cows.

It added that a few days before then, there was “a malicious act of poisoning which resulted in the death of three cows in the grazing area.”

“Poison-laced oranges were reportedly placed in the area, leading to the demise of the animals belonging to Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulkadir and Yau Sale.

“The incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and we are calling on the security agencies to swing into action and apprehend the perpetrators of these heinous acts to avoid any form of reprisal attacks that could lead to a loss of lives and property,” the group said.
