Ganduje withdraws plan to establish independent Hisbah in Kano

Former Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has withdrawn his plan to establish an independent group known as Hisbah Fisabilillahi in Kano State.

The decision was announced in a statement signed by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Dr Baffa Babba Dan Agundi.

According to the statement, Ganduje stepped back from the plan after a stakeholders’ meeting involving representatives from the 44 local government areas of Kano State.

The meeting was held at the Tinubu Campaign Office in Kano.

The statement explained that “the move followed widespread public reactions and concerns that greeted the proposal to create an independent Hisbah group”.

It added that key stakeholders intervened to prevent any situation that could threaten peace in the state.

Those involved in the intervention included the Kano State Government, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje himself.

According to the statement: “The meeting resolved to suspend the establishment of the independent Hisbah Fisabilillahi to allow the Kano State Government to properly review the issue surrounding the dismissal of some Hisbah personnel.”

It said the aim was to resolve the matter through dialogue, understanding and peaceful engagement rather than confrontation.

The statement also stressed the need to respect the legally recognised Hisbah Board already operating in Kano State. It further reaffirmed a commitment to cooperate fully with security agencies to maintain law and order.

It added that all parties agreed to work together to ensure the safety of lives and property, as well as peace and stability, not only in Kano State but across the country.
