Garba Shehu explained that Buhari was dissatisfied with the EndSARS protest.

Garba Shehu, who served as an aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, expressed that his former boss would have supported the contentious EndSARS protest if it hadn’t been taken over by disruptive forces. Shehu made these comments during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday. It is notable that Buhari passed away at the age of 82, as reported by DAILY POST. He passed away at the London Clinic on Sunday and will be interred today. Discussing the key moments of Buhari’s administration, Shehu remarked that his leader became concerned when the demonstrations escalated into violence. He particularly mentioned the assaults on police officers and the occurrences of arson and murder. Shehu added, “It would be challenging to offer more details than what you may have already heard.” Buhari would likely have appreciated it, even if it stemmed from a grievance. “I acknowledge that grievances existed and the government reacted early on with initiatives that included not just discussions but also concessions, such as the disbanding of EndSARS, which was a significant source of anger and the resulting abuses that occurred…” The issue seemed to arise when it shifted into a matter of law and order. You witnessed the extensive vandalism, assaults on police, along with acts of arson and murder. A responsible government wouldn’t have simply allowed such actions to continue unchecked. I believe it was driven by the reality that EndSARS, which started with good intentions, was taken over by individuals with disruptive motives. “No leader would deny feeling unsettled when law enforcement issues have become such a significant problem. As I mentioned, police properties were set on fire in Lagos, including assets belonging to the state and federal governments. Naturally, it was later confirmed that innocent civilians also lost their lives. “Thus, President Buhari was unlikely to be pleased with that.”
