Ghanaian Lawyer in New York, Kofi Amankwaa Sentenced to 70 Months in Jail for Immigration Fraud  

A Ghanaian attorney based in the Bronx in New York City, USA, Kofi Amankwaa, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison and ordered to pay back over$ 29m he fraudulently obtained from patients.
Kofi Amankwaa was accused of filing fraudulent applications for hundreds of consumers that not only misrepresented their immigration status but was designed to trap the program. He charged thousands of dollars for his service from each customer while knowing his false works made their odds of securing their visa very low.
After receiving some problems, authorities in New York’s Southern District Attorney’s Office commenced studies into Amankwaa. He was arrested and pleaded guilty in September last month. Amankwaa was sentenced earlier this month.
Apart from his 70 month prison word, the 70 year old Ghanaian has agreed to renounce$ 13, 389, 000 of his illegal profits as well as to give compensation of$ 16, 503, 425 to his patients.
According to officials, the Ghanaian carried out his fraud by getting them to sign a false form, I-360, which is a special type of card for victims of domestic abuse.
