The 27-year-old Nigerian player collided with the goalpost during the 88th minute of the match that ended in a 2-2 draw against Leicester City at the City Ground on Sunday while trying to connect with a cross from Anthony Elanga. As reported by BBC Sport, Awoniyi sustained a ruptured intestine due to the impact. He underwent surgery on Monday night and is still hospitalized, with the rest of the operation scheduled for Wednesday. In response to this news, the Galatasaray forward expressed his well wishes for Awoniyi’s speedy recovery through his official X account, stating, “Prayers up for you my brother.” You will never be abandoned by God.
