Gov Idris mourns Kebbi Assembly Speaker, Muhammad ZuruĀ 

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, describing it as a monumental loss to the state and the nation.

Zuru passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness.

His death was confirmed by the Clerk of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Suleiman Shamaki.

In a condolence message, Governor Idris said he received the news with shock and a heavy heart, mourning the loss of what he described as a trusted ally, committed lawmaker, and distinguished leader.

He noted that the late Speaker’s dedication to duty, humility, and service to Kebbi State set him apart as a true patriot.

The Governor praised Zuru as a pillar of legislative stability and democratic governance, highlighting his role as a dependable partner in advancing the state’s development.

He added that the Speaker’s death has created a significant vacuum in the leadership of Kebbi State.

According to Idris, Zuru will be remembered for his calm disposition, maturity in handling state affairs, and unwavering commitment to unity and progress.

He further described him as a man of integrity and loyalty who served with distinction and left behind a legacy of selfless public service.

The Governor lamented that the loss comes at a time when the late Speaker’s experience and counsel were most needed, noting that his passing is a major blow not only to the state government but also to the legislature, political associates, and all who knew him.

Governor Idris prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, the Kebbi State House of Assembly, the people of Zuru Emirate, and the entire state the strength to bear the loss.

Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, who was born on April 5, 1970, is survived by his wife and five children.

Governor Idris said the late Speaker’s death marks the end of an era of purposeful leadership and legislative excellence in the state.

He noted that Zuru’s contributions to democratic governance and his unwavering support for policies aimed at improving the lives of citizens will be remembered for years to come.
