The Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, has announced that the government has completely eliminated the 50 % cost that cocoa farmers originally paid for fertilizers in a bold move to boost Ghana’s coconut business and improve the security of cocoa gardening families.
Dr. Abbey emphasized that cocoa farmers will then receive free fertilizers, a move he described as a strong treatment to boost the productivity and means of livelihood of Ghanaian coco farmers during a client engagement session.
Farmers had to spend 50 % of the price for nutrients in the past. That stress has now been removed. Farmers are now entirely supplied at no cost to the farmer, according to Dr. Abbey.
Dr. Abbey furthermore revealed a new primary scholarship program for cocoa farmers ‘ kids in addition to the manure pleasure. He claims that the program aims to inspire producers and make it easier for their people to get into higher education. As a way to inspire the Ghanaian coconut farmer, he continued,” We’ll even be giving free scholarships to children of cocoa farmers in primary establishments.”
These efforts are a part of COCOBOD’s and the government’s wider efforts to boost productivity, revive the cocoa industry, and handle the socio-economic issues facing producers across the nation.
The statement has been praised by many participants in the agricultural sector as a proper step that will help lower farmers ‘ financial strain while encouraging the development of farming education.
Ghana, one of the top cocoa producers in the world, continues to grow, and these changes are anticipated to help the nation maintain its global competitiveness in the coconut market.
