For nearly two months, Senegal has been experiencing a silent blockade, but one with serious consequences: the clerks’ strike. If their demands are legitimate and must be heard, the collateral effects of this strike on the real economy cannot be passed over in silence. Since more than four weeks, all the dossiers de création d’entreprise are at a standstill. Concrètement, cela signifie des centaines d’entrepreneurs dans l’impossibilité de lancer leurs activités, de facturer, d’ouvrir un compte bancaire ou de recruter. Young project promoters, women entrepreneurs, investors and incubators find themselves blocked. At a time when the country is talking about economic recovery, structural transformation and the fight against unemployment, this is nonsense. This blockage reveals a disturbing reality: our system of business creation is still too dependent on human presence and manual procedures.
