​Guinea-Bissau: Terra Ranka is prevented from participating in the 2025 elections 

  BISSAU The Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) of Guinea-Bissau has rejected the application for registration of the political coalition “Platforme d’Alliance Inclusive PAI Terra Ranka”, preventing it from competing in the general elections scheduled for 23 November 2025. The decision was taken on Tuesday 24 September. The Supreme Court justified its refusal by the “objective impossibility” of examining the coalition’s dossier within the legal deadlines. PAI Terra Ranka, which brings together several parties including the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), the Guinean Democratic Movement (MDG), the Party of Democratic Convergence (PCD), the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Union for Change, had submitted its request on Friday 19 September. According to the electoral law, the Court normally has 24 hours to examine such a request, with a possible extension of 72 hours to correct any irregularities. However, the Tribunal has held that observance of this procedure would not allow the election calendar to be maintained, the deadline for the submission of candidatures having been set at 25 September by the Commission électorale nationale (CNE). The decision, taken by a majority, was approved by the President of the Session, Arafam Mané, as well as Judges João Mendes Pereira and Carmém Isaura Baptista Lobo. The Court of Justice has also ruled in favour of the application of the principle of proportionality. The
