General Horta N’Tam, until now Chief of Staff of the Army and former Chief of Staff of President Embaló, was officially installed on Thursday, 27 November, as President of the Transition and President of the High Military Command. The announcement was made during a press conference in Bissau, during which the military confirmed having taken total control of the country the previous day. According to the junta, General Horta N’Tam will lead Guinea-Bissau for a period of one year, the time to conduct a transition that they consider indispensable to “re-establish order” and “restore institutional stability”.
