Guinea-Bissau: the military High Command announces the lifting of the curfew

The High Military Command of Guinea-Bissau announced on Thursday, 27 November 2025, the lifting of the restrictions on movement and the curfew imposed the day before, following the events of 26 November, which had led to a blockage of the movement of people and goods. According to the official communiqué, this decision came after the appointment and investiture of the President of transition, General Horta N’Tam, and the establishment of a mechanism to restore national security and public order. The military authorities affirm that the conditions are now met for a gradual return to normalcy in the country. Le Haut Commandement also specifies that the former president Umaro Sissoco Embaló, as well as several senior security officials, are “in good health” but remain, for the moment, under his custody. The reopening of schools, training centres, markets and commercial spaces is announced as immediate. Public institutions still closed, notably some ministries, should resume their activities as soon as the transitional government is in place. Finally, the communiqué recalls that protest marches, demonstrations and strikes remain prohibited, in order to avoid any disturbance of the peace and stability of the country.
