Chief Francis Igwe, the father of former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, has been abducted by suspected gunmen in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.
Elder Igwe was reportedly abducted on Sunday morning while on his way to church in Ndufu-Alike community, located in Ikwo LGA.
Sources in the area disclosed that the victim was driving to attend church service when armed men riding on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle.
The assailants were said to have double-crossed him, forced him out of his car, and whisked him away on their motorcycle to an undisclosed location.
The incident has heightened tension within the community, as residents expressed concern over the rising cases of insecurity in the area.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Sunday Nwankwo, said the council was already collaborating with security agencies to gather necessary information and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, SP Joshua Ukandu, for official confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to his phone were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.
