Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has rubbished the state by his predescessor, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, that the NPP state previously collected the betting income.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday evening, after the NPP majority claimed in a post-budged display press event that they never implemented the betting duty, the latest Finance Minister said Dr Amin was deceiving Citizens.
According to him, information available to the current state indicates that the betting duty was implemented and that the NPP also acknowledged raising Ghc 80m from it, but he doesn’t understand what the original secretary is talking about.
” …My investigations revealed that it was implemented in the second half of 2024. And my investigations likewise reveal that year-to-date, the government of Ghana has collected over GH¢80 million from betting income, so I don’t know what he’s talking about”, Ato Forson said.
The clapback comes after Dr Mohammed, leading the minority’s reaction to Tuesday’s resources reading, denied that the NPP previously implemented the betting income.
According to him, the state is deceiving the public by claiming they have abolished the duty, noting that the NDC may prohibit a duty that never existed.
The state blew up on social media, with some firing up at the NPP for lying as the duty had been implemented last year and also the group’s torchbearer, Dr Bawumia, had pledged to waste it if elected.
