In a strong statement published on Monday 8 September 2025, Me Moussa Bocar Thiam, lawyer and former minister, strongly opposed the conditions of detention of Farba Ngom at the Pavillon Spécial de la prison de Dakar. Without entering into the details of the judicial dossier, Thiam concentrates on the humanitarian and legal aspects, denouncing a prison environment incompatible with the critical state of health of his client. “Le Pavillon Spécial is a milieu carcéral incompatible avec les pathologies graves et mortelles de Farba Ngom”, he launched the game, describing this space as a “prison” pure and simple, far from a place of care adapted. I have no words to describe the Pavillon Spécial as a hostile environment, overcrowded and lacking adequate medical infrastructure. It recalls that, since 7 August 2025, four eminent physicians, appointed by the Ordre sur requête du Président du Collège des Juges d’Instruction after consultation with Farba Ngom, have concluded a “risk of sudden nocturnal death”. For l’avocat, considérer ce pavillon comme un espace viable pour un détenu en tel péril est une aberration juridique: “Le Pavillon Spécial is a prison”, he asserts, underlining that any judicial decision to keep him in detention seriously violates the fundamental human rights.
He is a member of the European Parliament.
