On the occasion of the Tabaski festival, the Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, granted his pardon to 1 466 detainees, as reported by the site Sud Quotidien. This special measure was announced on Sunday by the communication service of the Ministry of Justice, in accordance with a republican tradition and constitutional provisions. * The presidential pardon applies to persons convicted of various offences, who are currently incarcerated in different prisons in Senegal. According to information reported by Sud Quotidien, the beneficiaries of this measure include primary offenders, detainees with possibilities of social reintegration, elderly or seriously ill individuals, as well as minors. By this act of clemency, the Head of State offers these citizens the opportunity to reunite with their families and reintegrate into society. This initiative marks a significant step towards the rehabilitation and social inclusion of former prisoners.
