On Sunday, Emenari Ifeanyi, the Police Commissioner of Benue State, was driven away from the protest site at Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi by furious youths. According to Daily Post, numerous protesters had congregated to voice their anger over the brutal deaths of more than 200 residents in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area. The demonstrators, clothed in black and carrying placards, demanded justice and swift actions from both state and federal authorities. Their chants reflected deep sorrow and anger as they called for an end to the continuous attacks by suspected armed herdsmen. When the police commissioner arrived with a contingent of heavily armed officers intending to address the crowd, he faced severe hostility. His attempt to speak was interrupted by the irate youths, who insisted he should go to Yelewata, the site of the massacre, instead of addressing them in the capital. After the commissioner departed, police began using tear gas against the protesters, leading to chaos and several reported injuries.
