‘I have no reason to doubt’ – Germany’s Merz speaks on Trump’s health

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has commented on United States President Donald Trump’s health amid speculation in some quarters.

Merz was questioned about his opinion of Trump’s capability and fitness for office during a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.

“Based on my encounters with President Trump, I have no reason to doubt his health,” Anadolu Ajansı quoted him as saying.

Merz added that although the American leader will turn 80 in June, he has the impression that Trump “is fully capable of performing his duties.”

Trump is the oldest person to assume the U.S. presidency, being 78 years old on his return to the White House — five months and six days older than Joe Biden was during inauguration.

Despite rumors surrounding his wellness, Trump maintains a busy schedule, with frequent trips and meetings within Washington, the country, and abroad.

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump admitted that he regrets undergoing advanced imaging because it gave rise to controversy over his health.

“It’s too bad I took it because it gave them (critics) a little ammunition,” the President said of the decision to get a cardiovascular and abdominal scan last October.
