The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that Iranās Natanz nuclear enrichment facility was hit by airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
IAEA Director General, Rafael Grossi, disclosed on Saturday that the agency had been informed by Iranian authorities of the attack on the Natanz site.
The development comes amid ongoing military exchanges, with Israel and the United States launching strikes across Iran, while Tehran has carried out counterattacks in the Gulf region.
āThe IAEA has been informed by Iran that the Natanz nuclear site was attacked today,ā the agency said in a statement, adding that āno increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported.ā
Grossi, who heads the UN-backed nuclear watchdog, reiterated his call for restraint, warning of the risks associated with targeting nuclear facilities.
āMilitary restraint is essential to avoid any risk of a nuclear accident,ā he said.
The IAEA, tasked with promoting the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technology, noted that the strike marks the fourth reported attack on Iranās nuclear facilities since the escalation of hostilities involving the United States and Israel.
