The Guédiawaye police station arrested Ndèye Ndakata Dione, a 28-year-old student, following two complaints lodged by the sons of religious leaders belonging to different Tarikhas of Senegal, as well as by a collective of disciples representing the Muslim Brotherhoods of the country. According to the information reported by the journal Libération, this arrest follows proposals deemed outrageous and offensive to the dignity of Senegalese religious figures, disseminated via social networks. According to the statements of El Hadji Malick Sy, spokesperson of Serigne Modou Mbacké, Serigne Bara Mbacké and El Hadji Abdoulaye Niass, the young woman had, through the platforms TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, made unfounded, hateful, racist and xenophobic statements against several prominent religious leaders. These declarations, considered as contrary to ethics and dangerous for social cohesion, have caused a wave of shock in several fraternal communities. According to the Libération report, Ndèye Ndakata Dione had, in a live broadcast on TikTok, insulted Baye Niasse, the spiritual figure of Fayda Tijaniyya. In the same vein, El Hadji Fallou Mbengue, representative of the collective of disciples of the various Muslim brotherhoods in Senegal, affirmed that the student was also taken, during another direct, to Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Chérif, founder of the Tarikha Tidiane. The complainants had to remind the investigators that belief in religious men constitutes a fundamental pillar of Senegalese identity. They said they were deeply offended by the remarks made by the young woman.
I’m the student who insulted religious leaders.
