De fortes précipitations se sont abattues sur Dakar ce vendredi, provoking d’importantes inundations dans plusieurs quartiers. The city of Dakar was hit by heavy rainfall on Friday, which caused flooding in several areas. Among the most affected areas are Ngor, Cambérène, Thiaroye, Diamaguène, as well as the Parcelles Assainies, including Unité 24. Although no major damage has been officially reported, the scenes of submerged streets and houses flooded by the waters have caused anxiety among the inhabitants. From the first hours of this crisis, the authorities reacted with celerity. The Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Dr Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, returned from a trip to South Africa and immediately went to the scene to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate the rescue operations. Accompanied by the technical teams of the Office national de l’assainissement du Sénégal (ONAS), of the Directorate de la prévention et de la gestion des inondations, he supervised the evacuation of the waters in the disaster area. According to a communiqué of the ONAS, the intervention carried out at the Unité 24 des Parcelles Assainies has significantly reduced the level of stagnant water: “The pumping station, with a capacity of 300 m3/hour, has allowed the level of water to rise from 95 cm to 45 cm between 15h00 and 20h13”, the institution reports.
