Iran confirms talks on ending war with US

Diplomatic discussions aimed at ending the weeks-long war are underway, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, confirmed on Monday.

The official said communications received through certain friendly countries were responded to appropriately and in line with Iran’s “principled positions.”

Baghaei disclosed that in its reply, Iran issued “necessary warnings” about the severe consequences of further attacks on its critical assets.

Any action against Iran’s energy infrastructure would be met with a “decisive, immediate, and effective response” from the armed forces, Tehran stressed.

The peace effort is being spearheaded by Egypt, Pakistan, and Türkiye, with mediators working to convene talks in Islamabad or another capital later this week.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is leading Iran’s delegation, while the United States will be represented by President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Vice President JD Vance, also involved in the negotiations, has spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the start of talks between Tehran and Washington.

President Donald Trump said both sides are “having really good discussions,” adding that Iran has “one more opportunity to end its threats to America and our allies, and we hope they take it.”

The U.S. has, however, not changed plans to deploy thousands of Marines to the Middle East. On Monday, Central Command said forces continue to strike Iranian military targets with precision munitions.
