More information is coming about who will take charge of Iran during a transition time after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei passed away, as reported by the Guardian UK.
After the passing of Iranian leader, Khamenei, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and another official from the country’s legal council will be part of the group in charge of handling the transition.
The state TV mentioned Mohammad Mokhber, who is one of Khamenei’s advisors, as a possible candidate.
Last summer, during the 12-day war with Israel, Khamenei announced three possible successors in case he was killed.
Reports from earlier this month said that Khamenei listed four levels of succession for important government and military positions.
This was done to make sure the regime stays strong if there is an attack from the US and Israel.
Iran has officially announced that two high-ranking military officials have died.
The country’s judicial system confirmed the deaths of the head of the Guards and another important security official.
According to the Iranian judiciary’s Mizan online news portal, General Mohammad Pakpour, who was the commander of the Guards, and Ali Shamkhani, who led the national defence council, were killed in the attacks that happened on Saturday.
At least 133 civilians have died and 200 civilians have been hurt during the US-Israel conflict with Iran, according to the US-based group HRANA, which is the Human Rights Activists News Agency.
HRANA reported that at least 59 incidents have taken place in 18 different provinces in Iran, describing it as a large-scale, multi-wave operation.
Tehran reported the highest number of incidents. The statement mentioned that schools and other places connected to children and students were damaged.
It also said that damage has been reported in urban areas and other civilian places, such as residential neighborhoods and work locations.
