Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have declared that the country is capable of sustaining a high-intensity conflict with the United States and Israel for as long as six months.
The statement, issued on Sunday, comes as hostilities in the region entered their second week, heightening tensions across the Middle East and sparking concerns about security and energy supplies in several Gulf states.
According to the Guards, Iran has so far relied on what it described as “first- and second-generation” missiles in the ongoing confrontation but signalled that it could escalate its military response.
Spokesman Ali Mohammad Naini said Tehran may soon deploy more sophisticated and rarely used long-range missiles as the conflict develops.
Meanwhile, the fighting expanded over the weekend, with Saudi Arabia reportedly intercepting more than a dozen drones suspected to be heading towards strategic sites, including the diplomatic district in Riyadh.
In Kuwait, authorities said fuel storage tanks at the country’s international airport were struck in an attack, raising further alarm about potential disruptions to global energy markets.
Kuwait’s national oil company subsequently announced a reduction in crude output, citing growing threats to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supply.
Iran also accused the United States and Israel of launching a strike on an oil depot in Tehran on Saturday, marking what officials described as the first attack on the country’s oil infrastructure since the conflict began.
The Israeli military confirmed it had targeted several fuel storage facilities in the Iranian capital, saying the sites were used to support military operations.
On Sunday, Israel carried out another round of air strikes in different parts of Tehran. The operation followed a precision strike that reportedly targeted key commanders of the Quds Force, the external operations arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, at a seaside hotel in central Beirut.
Lebanon’s health ministry said at least four people were killed in the strike on the hotel.
