The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, has pledged revenge following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement released on Sunday and carried by Lebanon’s Hezbollah, the elite force warned that those responsible for Khamenei’s death “will not escape severe, decisive, and deterrent punishment.”
The IRGC emphasised that Iran’s armed forces, along with Basij militias, would confront both “internal and external conspiracies” and ensure that the perpetrators are met with a “deterrent and exemplary response.”
The statement also called on all citizens to unite in defense of the nation and display solidarity and national unity to the global community.
The development follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on Truth Social, in which he confirmed Khamenei’s death after coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets.
Trump described the Supreme Leader as “one of the most evil people in history” and hailed the strikes as an opportunity for the Iranian people to reclaim their country.
He added that the bombings would continue until peace is achieved in the region and beyond.
Under Khamenei’s rule, the IRGC evolved into Iran’s most powerful military force, surpassing the regular army in influence and strategic significance.
