Newcastle United’s Swedish forward Alexander Isak has been named Player of the Month for December 2024. The Premier League announced Isak’s win on their website on Friday. This marks the first time Isak has received this award, following an impressive month where he scored eight goals and provided two assists in six Premier League matches. He was the top scorer in the league for December, netting in all six games as Newcastle secured four victories, one draw, and one loss, putting them in contention for a top-four finish. Isak’s notable performances included a hat-trick against Ipswich Town and goals against Liverpool, Brentford, Leicester City, Aston Villa, and Manchester United. His goal in the 3-3 match against league leaders Liverpool is nominated for December’s Guinness Goal of the Month award. Additionally, IPC has banned Nigeria’s para powerlifter Almaruf for doping violations. The 25-year-old is the fourth Swedish player to receive the award since it started in the 1994/95 season. The other players include Freddie Ljungberg for Arsenal in April 2002, Johan Elmander for Bolton Wanderers in November 2010, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Manchester United in December 2016. Isak is the first Newcastle player to receive the award since Miguel Almiron won it in October 2022. Isak emerged at the top of an eight-member shortlist after tallying the public votes from the EA SPORTS website alongside those from a panel of football experts. Do you have what it takes?
