It Could Be Electrical Fault But It Looks Like Deliberate Action – GNFS Speaks On Kantanmanto Fire

Over 100 stores were destroyed as a result of a destructive fire that ripped through Accra’s teeming Kantamanto Market on January 2, 2025, leaving investors in agony.
The fire, which began around 1: 19 a. m., has sparked investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service ( GNFS ) into its possible causes.
The GNFS’ preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been brought on by defective electronic relationships, a problem that occurs frequently on the market.
But, authorities have no ruled out the possibility of fire, adding an unsettling component to the tragedy. Investors and store proprietors, many of whom have lost their lives, expressed strong pain as they sifted through the charred remnants of their companies.
The Kantamanto Market, known as a main hub for second-hand items and garments, is a source of livelihood for some traders, making the effect of the fire outbreak all the more serious.
The GNFS has since assured the government that a detailed investigation is being conducted to find out the exact cause of the fire. In order to prevent similar incidents in the future, they have even called for increased attention and adhering to safety practices in markets.
