It’s Long Overdue – Ghanaians React to Asiedu Nketia’s Call for Kotoka Int’l Airport to Be Named After Kwame Nkrumah

Ghanais have demanded that the Kotoka International Airport’s proposed name change, which they call” Khocoka International Airport” be immediately changed because it is a wise choice.
Social media users, reacting to the call by National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress ( NDC ), Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, agreed with the move and called it long overdue.
After declaring his opinion that the Kotoka International Airport does been renamed, Asiedu Nketia sparked a discussion on social media.
According to him, the Airport should not be named after a coup mastermind who overthrew Ghana’s second President. Rather, it should be named after Kwame Nkrumah himself.
Nketia claimed that actually courts have ruled that the state does not hold events like the June 4th and 31st revolutions because it would endanger bloodshed, but a revolution plotter like Kotoka is being celebrated.
He demanded that the name be changed to reflect Kwame Nkrumah’s position as the country’s leader.

The British used Kotoka International Airport as an Air Force base during the Second World War, replacing it with Accra International Airport, which was actually the name of the airports. Following the war, it was handed over to civil authorities. In 1956, Kwame Nkrumah oversaw the development and construction of the aircraft. The Airport was given the name General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka after his ouster in a revolution.
