Jealous Down and Sanders United share the spoils in high-stakes Super League clash

Kwa-Thema – A brilliant game between Jealous Down and Sanders United in the Springs Football Association Super League took place at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex on May 25.

The tactical game had coaches anxious as they directed the teams in the right direction. The game started at a high pace, with both teams struggling to score goals, but they kept the motivation by utilising all opportunities.

“The first half was very tight. We created numerous opportunities, but we made several mistakes at the back. We were not fast enough to release the ball.

“Second half, we attacked more. After scoring our first goal, we relaxed more, and that is how our opponents managed to equalise,” said Jealous Down coach Tshepo Phatlane.

Phatlane said equalising with their players serves as a loss more than it is a draw, saying it is a loss in the league. He added that they were second on the log and were hoping to win this game after losing to Ayoba.

“We will come back and regroup towards the remaining eight games,” added Phatlane.

The game ended with a draw of a 1-1 score. According to Vusi Zulu, the coach of Sanders United, his team did not play well in the first half.

“Our opponents managed to exploit spaces in from the back because we did not mark the ball as a collective. We worked in departments.

“We managed to rectify our mistakes in the second half. We tackled the ball strategically.

“There are several mistakes I plan to work on during practice, especially making the most of scoring opportunities, as we often find ourselves in promising positions, but the player in possession lacks the confidence or skill to convert,” added Zulu.

“The team lacks communication skills as well.

“That needs to improve as well. We could have done better, but gaining another point on the log means a lot,” he concluded.
