Jose Peseiro explains why Ademola Lookman chose Nigeria over England 

Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has shed light on Ademola Lookman’s decision to represent Nigeria over England.

Lookman, born in England to Nigerian parents, had the unique opportunity to represent either nation.

Initially, he chose to play for England, advancing through their U-19, U-20, and U-21 teams.

However, in 2020, the Atletico Madrid forward shifted his allegiance, opting to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles as he turned down the opportunity to don the Three Lions jersey.

Reflecting on Lookman’s choice to switch sides, Peseiro said to Marca, “England stopped calling him up [after Lookman’s success in the Under-20 World Cup in 2017 and subsequent appearances for the Under-21s].

“He didn’t understand. Eventually, So, since his parents were Nigerians, he accepted the call-up [to play for the Super Eagles] just months before my arrival.”
