Justice and power: the debate relaunched by Oumar Sarr

Oumar Sarr, former minister and leader of the Parti des libéraux et démocrates (PLD/And Suqali), reacted strongly to the judicial policy led by the new government. Invited by the “Point de vue” programme on RTS, he denounced what he perceived as an “acharnement contre l’opposition” and pleaded for respect for the independence of the judiciary. L’ancien ministre des Mines et de la Géologie, also mayor of Dagana, has openly taken the defense of several personalities of the ancien régime currently prosecuted by the justice. He notably cited the cases of Mansour Faye and Sophie Gladima, whose judicial situations have made a lot of ink flow. The case of Mansour Faye and Sophie Gladima is at the heart of criticism. As regards Mansour Faye, former minister and mayor of Saint-Louis, Oumar Sarr was categorical: “If there is one person who should not have been arrested, it is Mansour Faye. He argued that the former Minister had acted “too legally” and “zealously” in the application of the decisions taken by the Ministry of Commerce, notably in the dossier relating to rice cultivation in the Senegal River Valley.
