Le chroniqueur Abdou Nguer was heard ce vendredi 04 juillet 2025 au fond by the judge d’instruction du 3e cabinet du tribunal de grande instance de Dakar. This hearing follows his indictment for dissemination of false news, offense to the head of state and apology of a crime or a crime, facts dating back to the month of May last. Already incarcerated in the framework of another procedure, Abdou Nguer had been extracted from his cell to be confronted with the charges brought against him in this new dossier. According to information obtained by Seneweb, the judge submitted to the accused several videos in which the latter publicly expressed his views on the regime in place. Abdou Nguer is without a doubt recognized as the author of the propos incriminés. However, he had to clarify that his statements were a “constructive” criticism, and not a desire to harm or discredit the institutions of the Republic. “My intention was to encourage the authorities to do better”, would have declared le chroniqueur devant le magistrat instructeur, rejecting any malicious or subversive posture. L’affaire intervient dans un contexte où la liberté d’expression et les limites du discours critique dans l’espace public font l’objet de nombreux débats au Sénégal. The case has arisen in a context where freedom of expression and the limits of critical discourse in the public space are the subject of numerous debates in Senegal. The judicial treatment of the Abdou Nguer case could thus revive the discussion on the place of chroniclers in the democratic debate, between freedom of opinion and respect for the institutions. Pending the outcome of the investigation, Abdou Nguer remains in detention, both for this case and for another ongoing procedure concerning it.
