Kaduna residents turn out en masse for monthly sanitation exercise 

Residents across Kaduna State on Saturday came out en masse for the monthly sanitation exercise introduced by the state government, as they hailed Governor Uba Sani for reintroducing the exercise in the state.

DAILY POST recalls that in November 2025, the state government, through the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, declared the last Saturday of every month a sanitation day, scheduled to run from 7 am to 10 am.

All residents in the state are expected to clean their environment, move around their neighbourhoods and remove all forms of refuse.

Subsequently, the Commissioner for Information Maiyaki, announced in a statement on Friday, February 27, 2026, the sanitation exercise billed for Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The exercise was peacefully observed across the state by various stakeholders, as motorists, businesses and other vehicular movements were temporarily suspended between 7 am and 10 am.

The DAILY POST correspondent who monitored the exercise observed strict adherence to the directive, as many residents were seen cleaning their surroundings and clearing drainages, while children hand-picked litter and other objects detrimental to citizens’ health.

The Kaduna Central Market, and other markets in Kakuri, Nassarawa and Kawo, as well as motor parks across the state, were locked.

Speaking to DAILY POST, a popular bus driver at Television Garage, Titus Ademu, while congratulating the state government for reintroducing the statewide sanitation exercise, said cleanness is next to godliness.
“When we keep our environment clean, we will be free from all manner of sicknesses, the entire state will look good and attractive.”

Also speaking, a Kaduna-based landlord, Joshua Agada, said, ” it’s important to set a day like this to clean our environment, surroundings so as to prevent reptiles, scorpions and other harmful creatures creeping into our homes.”

According to him, regular cleaning of drainages prevents unnecessary flooding during the rainy season.

Mrs Rhoda Ademu, a businesswoman at the Kaduna Central Market, said once everywhere is clean, including their shops, it will attract customers.

At the end of the three-hour sanitation exercise, several businesses resumed operations across the state.
