Kano: Authorities have apprehended 11 students in connection with the murder of two boys from a boarding school.

The Kano Police Command has detained 11 students suspected of being involved in the deaths of two secondary school students in the Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State. Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrests on Thursday, stating that the suspects are currently being interrogated to investigate their alleged roles in the murders. He assured that the police would thoroughly investigate the incidents and prosecute anyone involved. Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the mysterious deaths of the students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi. The deceased, Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were reportedly assaulted by their peers with local metal objects referred to as “Gwale-Gwale.” The Commissioner, represented by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, along with Permanent Secretary Bashir Baffa Muhammad, stated that the Kano State Government will carry out a thorough and impartial investigation, ensuring justice for everyone involved. “It was reported that the violent incident stemmed from a decision by some senior students to punish the deceased for an alleged misdeed,” they explained. The Permanent Secretary, who has already visited the school, urged students to remain cautious and refrain from taking matters into their own hands. “Do not take the law into your own hands; instead, report any concerns to the school officials for appropriate actions,” he advised. He also expressed condolences on behalf of the Kano State Government, the Ministry of Education, and the people of Kano State to the family of the deceased, praying for Almighty Allah to grant them Jannatul Firdaus. During his speech, Abbas Abdullahi, the Director of the Secondary School for the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, shared his profound sorrow regarding the incident. He stressed the importance of students respecting their privileges and not resorting to vigilante justice. “The Kano State Government is committed to thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event,” he stated.
