Kano court grants bail to three accused of insulting Islamic scholarĀ

A Magistrates’ Court sitting at Court No. 53 in Norman’s Land, Kano, has granted bail to three men accused of insulting Sheikh Umar Sani Fagge.

The defendants, Adamu Adamu, Salihu Bala, and Hassan Umar, were brought before the court presided over by Magistrate Mustapha Sa’ad Datti.

They are facing charges including conspiracy, defamation, and causing public disturbance.

During Thursday’s hearing, the court heard the case, and the accused persons denied all the allegations against them. Their lawyer then applied for bail on their behalf.

The court approved the request and granted each of them a bail set at N50,000, along with two sureties each.
One of the sureties must be a director, while the other must be a university lecturer.

The case was adjourned to April 28, 2026, for continuation of hearing.

The case stems from statements allegedly made during a political gathering in Kwaciri. At the event, a man identified as Isyaku Mai Fenti was said to have made defamatory remarks, claiming that ā€œthe goat of Kwaciri is better than Malam Umar Sani Fagge,ā€ and later shared the statement on social media.

However, Isyaku Mai Fenti is currently on the run.
