A High Court sitting in Kano State has removed the chairman of Kumbotso Local Government Council, Ghali Abdullahi Basaf, from office.
The presiding judge, Abdu Maiwada Abubakar, delivered the judgment on Tuesday, nullifying the Certificate of Return earlier issued to Basaf.
The court ruled that the certificate was issued in violation of an earlier court order.
The case was filed by Ali Musa Hardworker against the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Basaf, and the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission.
In its decision, the court directed that Hardworker be sworn in as the duly elected chairman of Kumbotso Local Government.
“The Certificate of Return issued to Ghali Abdullahi Basaf is hereby nullified for being in violation of an earlier court order,” the judge ruled.
Justice Abubakar also ordered KANSIEC to strictly comply with a previous judgment delivered on October 25, 2024, stressing the need for all parties to respect court decisions.
“All parties must adhere to judicial decisions,” the court added.
